Each year Grec invites a plethora of acts to perform theatre, dance, music and more in magnificent venues across Barcelona. Grec Festival is a high brow affair offering a selection of world class artists across a range of disciplines. If you are in the area, this event is not to be missed. The programme is launched in Spring and tickets are usually available to buy from May.

The best time to visit is in the evenings as the illuminations on most streets are switched on at around 8.30om.

Held in the town of Bunol on the last Wednesday in August each year, it is known as the world's biggest food fight. The week long festival attracts 30,000 visitors each year. La Merced Festival

Held in honour of Mare de Deu de la Merce, the Patron Saint of Barcelona, La Merced Festival is the main festival of the city. The main events take place on September 24 but festivities last over five days, with up to 500 different activities. Some of the most famous events are the Castellers (human towers) in the Gothic Quarter and the Correfoc (procession of fire breathing dragons) on the Via Laietana as well as the unmissable Parade of Giants.
