Once the route to torture and imprisonment for enemies of the state, this bridge is now the location for more cheerful pastimes - romance, souvenir hunting and photography.
The interior of this building is so exquisitely ornate, it almost hurts your eyes – and with its five huge Byzantine domes, it is spectacular from the outside as well.
Venice’s main square is the place to hang out with a coffee or a Bellini and watch the world go by. And if you can bear to tear yourself away from your ringside seat, it also boasts two of the city’s most exquisite buildings; the Doges Palace and the Basilica of St Mark.
