A huge arts festival held in stunning baroque gardens on the outskirts of Hannover. Early and contemporary music, musical theatre and other performances are just a few of the items on this festival's itinerary.
Probably the largest of its kind in the world, the Schutzenfest Fair is a giant fun fair with all the fairground attractions you'd expect - rides, carousels, food and drinks stalls and game stalls. What's more, a huge rifleman's parade makes its way through the city centre, accompanied by floats with dancers and other entertainers.
One of Germany's biggest open-air concerts, revellers flock in their thousands to enjoy the music. Children are made really welcome here too, and are kept entertained in the supervised play areas, while the older kids take part in skateboarding competitions, as well as other fun sports and activities.
Situated on the banks of the River Weiser, stretching for almost a kilometre, Breminale is a huge arts festival with concerts, theatre groups, jugglers and other entertainers to name but a few. Great food is available across the many stalls, as well as organic produce and fairtrade stalls. And what's more, entry is free!
Lake Maschsee is the location of this festival, with free concerts across four stages as well as various water-based activities, including boat trips and torchlight swimming.
