Vieux Château, Ile d’Yeu

To get one of the most spectacular views in the Vendée then you must visit Vieux Château, the striking landmark of Ile d’Yeu. From up on the cliff top there are fantastic panoramic views of breathtaking scenery. The island can be reached by ferry from Fromentine or St Gilles Croix-de-Vie.


La Route du Sel, Sallertaine

At La Route du Sel in Sallertaine you can hire canoes to retrace the old salt routes and explore the interesting ancient marshlands.

Traditional fair of Autrefois Challans

For two Thursdays in both July and August, Challans goes back in time. From dawn till dusk the town celebrates ‘the good old days’, starting with a poultry, butter, egg, and pig fair. There are parades and lots of free activities, but its best to get a timetable of events from the tourist information office so you don’t miss anything. 2020 dates to be confirmed.

Off Parc Activities

Unusual push pedal cars are available to hire at ‘Velo Rail’, just over 20 km from the site. It is a fun way for the family to explore the area, taking in the sights along a former railway line.

For cycling and walking Ile d’Yeu is a fabulous destination. Bikes can be hired on the island and there are brilliant routes for exploring the wonderful moors and wild countryside. The island also offers fabulous places to eat and lovely sandy beaches.

‘Les Ecureuils’ is well located for watersports. One of the top locations for water activities is Sables d’Olonnes.
