Just a few minutes' drive away is the Ardèche river canyon and the Pont d'Arc - most certainly worth a visit, where you can sit and watch the world go by, paddle, swim, or hire a canoe and explore! Don't forget your camera though… In this area there is ample opportunity to not only go canoeing and swimming, but to take part in other exciting activities such as rock climbing, mountain biking and even white water rafting, too. There are also many caves to go and explore, including Les Grottes de St Marcel.

The marvellous Aven d’Orgnac is a spectacular cave network and is home to the ‘City of Prehistory’. In addition to a walking tour of the amazing natural features there is an offering for the more adventurous; you can hike further than the developed part of the cave and take part in caving exercises, abseiling and climbing the rocks.

In Pierrelatte, about 35 km from the site, you will find an attraction which is unique in Europe. ‘La Ferme aux Crocodiles’ is a huge tropical greenhouse where you can visit more than 350 crocodiles and a magnificent group of giant tortoises. You can get hands on too and pick up some of the baby tortoises.

You are just a short walk from Vallon Pont d’Arc, which is something of a focal point for tourists in this fascinating region. It is a magnificent limestone gorge whose entrance, the Pont d’Arc, is an impressive 80 metres high. The best way to see it is to hire a canoe or take to the river on an organised trip.

Chauvet Caves - Pont d'Arc

Carefully crafted over 12 years, the new 29-hectare site recreates every detail of the original cave, including thousands of amazing prehistoric artworks and bear footprints too!

Every summer Labeaume hosts a music festival. ‘Labeaume en Musique’ fills the pretty cobbled town with the sounds of opera, classical and other genres of music as delicious as the local food and bubbly. Don’t forget your cushion for the pebbled beach, so you can sit and enjoy the music from the riverside stage, with the illuminated rock face behind providing a natural amphitheatre. 2020 dates to be confirmed.

Off Parc Activities

The area is full of opportunities to canoe, swim, rock climb, mountain bike and even white water raft. Canoeing down the river is an absolute must in this region as it is the perfect way to see unmissable sights that you can’t access by road. There are local watersports companies who will take you on planned routes to see the famous sites of the area; Gorges de l’Ardeche Canoeing is just 5 km from this parc. You could also try exploring on horseback as horse riding facilities can be found within 10 km of the parc.
